Cleaning broken historic workflows

I have a site with almost 1000 workflows stuck in it due to the object no longer been found. No doubt inherited as its an old eZ publish site now upgraded to 4.3.0.
Any one have any tips on how to 'clean' this mess? I tried using Workflowboard as at least it displays them, but unfortunately can't remove them, I get transaction errors like these.
