Display of a web page can be slowered by the loading of static resources, such as stylesheets and javascript files. To optimize those files, we can minify them, by removing unused caracters.

But after a compressing process, it is hard to edit / modify those files.
That's why the extension can only be executed with a command line, for instance, useful at synchronization on production server only.
