You should take a look at the GIS / GIS operators project.
http://projects.ez.no/index.php/gis

The project is already larger and also includes stuff like rage search etc... and also has abstraction layers for the geocoder like google and yahoo.
A version for ez 3.10 is also availabe but not commited to the SVN.

We should join forces here instead of creating new projects.

Actually, this is not a new project, but a port of http://ez.no/developer/contribs/datatypes/google_maps_location_datatype in the contributions.

There are similarities with http://projects.ez.no/gis, but some people do only want to store coordinates and do not feel comfortable with creating a new table.
